Cheating

How do students cheat? We know that many students do, but the question is where they get the information to cheat. In a recent survey, it shows that sixty-seven percent have copied other students, forty percent cheated on tests, and twenty-five percent have used plot summaries. The question is why do students do this.

A study shows that they do this because they do not want to spend their time doing homework, yet they deny the action of themselves cheating, is pressure coming from other students. Half the students studied seven hours or less during a one week period.

A spokesperson, for the National Association of Secondary School Principals, said “Kids are seeing all around them that elected officials, business leaders, all of us are taking short cuts in life, and we need to understand that they're going to follow our examples." From this, we can see that working adults also affect kids view on how important being honest and doing the work right.

From this survey, it showed that out of 2,000 students, 70 % said they cheated in high school. After this, half cheated in college. This is a downward spiral for them to continue to cheat at their jobs and at everything they do. So, we can see how important it is to try to stop this now.

Another survey showed that 80 percent reached the goal in English and 77 percent did in math. It also showed that 88 percent reached it in science. The issue is that 120,000 students are still unable to read and write appropriately. Also, 140,000 students are still having troubles in math.

So these are the main issues why students are cheating. In another study, it shows that all tests that are given in different schools are also adding the pressure for those students to cheat.

Also, you can see it is hard for the schools to meet the requirements that the government gives. The standard is that eighty-five percent of the student body needs to meet the standard in math and reading.
Teachers are now told to try to ask the right questions or that are similar to the test. They should do this beforehand, so that the scores are more satisfactory and above to help out the grading average and to make sure all students are up to par.

Now, more than ever, it is important for students and teachers to go over the curriculum to make sure all students are understanding it. That way they know what needs to be meet for the standard test to lower the cheating rates and make our test scores higher.

Eating disorders

What is the main topic that is on peoples mind today? When we look at the media we can see that a lot of it has to do with eating disorders. In the media, we see the picture perfect person that we are all suppose to look like. Many wonder if that is whom we are supposed to be.

In today’s society, we see models that are suppose to set the standards for everyone. They show you the perfect body shape to your hair style. These are supposedly what we are to look like. You can see that not what everyone looks like this.

From this media, it makes ones feel as if they are not good enough as they are. We can see what results from this. Many then feel depression, and obtain eating disorders. Ones have become anorexic and also have gone the other way and ate their feelings.

If the media became aware of the way they sell their product, there might be a minimizing of the problem. They could do this by using children and healthy people instead of a skinny model that is size zero and makes people feel bad. We can see being healthy does not being a small size but to be in a good physical shape for you.

So we can see that if we are trying to be in a good physical condition we are more likely to not have these problems. One could also look at what they need to be healthy instead of obsessing over what others look like. We then can minimize the problem of eating disorders.

Thinking
What is thinking? There is a lot of meaning behind this. Many of us think about all different types of things during the day. A poem written by Hannah Arendt says, “According to Kant, thinking is ‘talking to oneself…hence also inwardly listening.” What does this mean to you?

What does this mean? When you really think about this poem it does make sense. When you are talking to yourself and debating on what you really think about the matter, you have to listen. When you listen you are really getting to know yourself as a person and what you will and won’t do.

Also, when you talk to yourself you are usually trying to find the solution to something you need to know. Maybe if you do this you may infer a consequence and when you listen you may just learn and build a conscience.
What I think from reading this is that it is very true. When you read it you realize what you are as a person. This is a very imporant quote and you should really think about if you really think about if you are listening.
